How It Works
A licence plate screw is a self-tapping screw supplied with a plastic bush and a snap-on cap. The thread forms its own hold in the panel or bracket, the bush spreads the load on the plate, and the cap clips over the head once the screw is tightened.
Advantages
-
Hex head with a driving slot
The head is an external hex with a slot across it, so the screw can be turned with a spanner or socket, or with a flat-bladed screwdriver.
-
Self-tapping thread
The thread forms its own hold in the panel or bracket.
-
Plastic bush between screw and plate
The bush sits between the screw and the plate and spreads the load across the plate face around the hole.
-
Cap clips over the fitted head
A plastic cap snaps on after tightening, leaving a plain face over the head.
Industry Applications
Vehicle Plate and Trim Fixing
Used to mount licence plates and light trim to panels and brackets, where the fixing stays visible and exposed.
Fixing With No Access Behind
Used where the back of the panel or bracket cannot be reached, so the thread has to form its own hold rather than take a nut.
Plate Holes and Bracket Slots
Plate mounting holes and bracket slots are not all the same size, and the plastic bush takes up the clearance between the screw and the hole.
