Customization Options
• Thread size and overall length
• Point style: cup, flat, cone, dog or oval
• Internal hex size and recess depth
• Steel grade and heat-treated condition
• Black oxide finish, supplied dry or oiled
Common Design Concerns
• A cup point cuts into the shaft and leaves a ring mark, so the shaft must be a part that may be scored, or be flatted or drilled to receive the point
• The screw must be hard enough to drive against, or the hex socket will round out before the point is fully seated
• Tapped-hole depth, not overall length, sets how far the point can travel, so hole depth and screw length are specified together
• Black oxide does not build up in the thread or the recess, but it gives little protection against moisture, so these screws suit dry or enclosed positions
Typical Applications
• Shaft, collar and pulley clamping
• Setting and locking axial position on a shaft
• Fastening wholly inside a tapped hole, with nothing above the surface
• Deep tapped holes in a thick boss or hub, where the screw must reach past the wall to the shaft
